History[]

In The Unbearable Tragedy of Getting What You Want, Sy approaches Viktor and calls him by his name. Viktor asks who Sy is, but he shyly deflects the question by asking that Viktor get into his van. However, Viktor refuses to capitulate, so Sy uses a stun gun on Viktor and drags his unconscious body into his van.

Eventually, Sy leaves a note addressed to Luther at his home, which reads that he has kidnapped Viktor and that he and his Umbrella brethren must go to Sy's Dry Cleaning on 5th Avenue. Not sharing Luther's enthusiastic nature, everyone else agrees to help rescue Viktor.

Once the Umbrella group arrives, Sy appears with a gun in hand and kindly apologizes for his kidnapping but asks that they help him with his situation. Sy claims that his kidnapping was the only way to ensure they'd all appear there and to take full precaution of them being a part of the Umbrella Academy. However, Five, aiming his pistol at Sy, claims that the Umbrella Academy doesn't exist, so Sy shows them a newspaper clipping featuring them saving the Eiffel Tower as the Umbrella Academy. Although the group has no recollection of saving the Eiffel Tower, Sy goes on to explain that his daughter Jennifer met up with a group called "The Keepers". Since meeting the group, Jennifer has excommunicated Sy and has not talked with him for over three months.

Refuting Jennifer's claim that he doesn't want anything to do with him and admitting that he's been watching the group for a long time, Sy asks again for their help. Although most Umbrella Members don't wish to help, Five agrees to find her within 24 hours after he rummages through Jennifer's box of belongings.

In Jean and Gene, when Ben meets up with Rosie, who is revealed to be Jennifer, the missing daughter of Sy. She reveals that she doesn't have a father by that name.

In The Squid and the Girl, Sy, sitting in front of his van, confronts Ben and asks him if he's found his daughter. Ben informs him that they found her, but the place she was in was armed to the teeth with uzi's, which Sy says was a dangerous job. Setting that aside, Ben accuses Sy of lying to them, stating that Jennifer isn't his daughter, and Sy notes that he's talked with her, which Ben confirms and details how he enjoyingly hung out with her. Sy then notes that Ben now understands how special she is, and Ben notes how he can't stop thinking about her. Sighing with a smile, Sy asked Ben where Jennifer was now. Ben states that Jennifer was kidnapped by two people named Gene and Jean.

Despite Sy stating that the situation is volatile and that Ben needs to regroup with his siblings, Ben refuses, saying he's flying solo. Just then, Ben gets a splitting headache and sees visions of Jennifer. To that point, Sy mentions that it corroborates his claim that Jennifer, as is Ben, is special. He also advises Ben to listen to his body as she needs him; Sy then asks Ben to close his eyes and trust his instincts.

In The Cleanse, Sy meets Jean and Gene at their new HQ and introduces himself as Denny Mutz of the Red Dear Chapter. Immediately, Gene is alarmed by his presence. Sy's praise of Jean allows him to sit beside her, and when Gene asks why he's there, he answers that it's about the missing girl.

In Six Years, Five Months, and Two Days, Sy sits at a table eating a chicken sandwich as Gene and Jean talk about him. The two soon join him, and they start a conversation with him. Sy confesses that he's interested in the Cleanse and asks them about it, to which they explain how Jennifer escaped with Ben. Sy then states they need a plan to prevent the Umbrella family from reuniting with Jennifer and Ben.

Afterward, Sy runs into Gene and asks for an update on Ben and Jennifer's whereabouts; Gene pulls a gun on him and demands that Sy leave. Although a brief back-and-forth conversation between them occurs, ultimately, Sy leaves as Gene watches him. Later, Gene checks his car and is confronted by a whistling Sy who impales him with a tentacle, and as Gene dies, he pulls off Sy's face, revealing him to be Abigail Hargreeves.
