"You've got so much you can offer this world. More than I can, anymore. It's coming. You better be ready"
—The Horror's cryptic message to the Séance[src]

Ben Hargreeves (00.06 The Horror) possesses monsters under his skin from other dimensions. He is deceased, but no information regarding his death is given. There is a memorial statue of him located in the front of the Academy. Even though he's been dead since before the start of the series (but after the Murder Magician affair), he's been portrayed as a member of The Umbrella Academy ever since, appearing as either his statue counterpart or as images of him alive.

In ''The Umbrella Academy: Apocalypse Suite'', Rumor stands beneath his statue, talking to Spaceboy of how everyone blames him for what happened to Ben, although no one knows for sure what happened the day he presumably died.

His statue was destroyed by the White Violin near the end of the Apocalypse Suite story.

Biography[]

Early life[]

The child that would become Ben Hargreeves was born at the same time as forty-two other extraordinary children. As a baby, he was adopted by the world-famous scientist and entrepreneur Reginald Hargreeves with the express intention of training them to save the world. Ben lived at the special academy set up by Hargreeves to train the children.

Designated as Number Six by Hargreeves, Ben had the ability to channel eldritch creatures from another dimension through a portal under his skin, most often displayed as tentacles emerging from his stomach. Growing up, he had a naive and enthusiastic nature that led to him being easily manipulated. Sir Reginald found Ben's abilities to be fascinating but gruesome and had to learn to suppress a feeling of nausea in order to study the condition further.[1]

The Umbrella Academy[]

Ten years after their adoption, the Umbrella Academy made their public debut to counter the threat posed by the Zombie-Robot Gustave Eiffel and the rampaging Eiffel Tower in Paris. Ben was part of the team during the battle, using his abilities to save Klaus from the Eiffel Tower's inner workings. The battle ended with the death of Eiffel and the launching of the Eiffel Tower into space. After the mission, Ben joined the others having celebratory ice cream.[2]
