History[]
Creation[]
As Abigail Hargreeves puts it, years ago she synthesized a new element, the particle Marigold. However at the same time the particles opposite known as Durango was also synthesized.
When both particles interact it spells the end of her and her husband's homeworld.
Usage (Original Timeline)[]
Long ago, Sir Reginald Hargreeves on his dying planet releases a jar of Marigolds into the air which float away, these particles presumably arrive on earth.
On the day of October 1, 1989 the Marigolds causes the 43 Mothers to give birth to 43 Children who 7 of which later become the Umbrella Academy.
Usage (Dallas & Sparrow Timeline)[]
Similar to the Original Timeline it is presumed that this Sir Reginald Hargreeves also released a jar of Marigolds which would arrive to earth.
In Dallas Harlan Cooper would go on to drown, however Viktor Hargreeves would go on to save him by giving the young boy some Marigold causing Harlan to develop powers similar to Viktor. Later in the season Viktor managed to remove some of the Marigold, however some still remained in Harlan.
Another way this timeline differs, instead of 43 Children only 16 children were born. Only 7 of those 16 would go on to become apart of the Sparrow Academy.
After the Umbrellas return to 2019, Viktor would meet a older Harlan going by the name Lester. Viktor would then remove the rest of the Marigold within the old man.
Inside of the Hotel Oblivion we see the hotel using the Marigold to power itself, draining the Umbrellas and the remaining Sparrows of their Marigold.
