"Kindest Cut"[1] is the fifth episode in the third season of The Umbrella Academy.
Synopsis
Klaus's relationship with death proves more complicated than anyone knew. Viktor finally learns what happened to the Umbrellas' mothers.
Plot
SPOILERS AHEAD
Klaus wakes up in the afterlife, where he learns that he has died multiple times in the past, but has always come back to life due to his immortality. He also reunites with his dead mom, Rachel, who encourages him to stop mourning her death and instead return to the living world to find his sense of purpose.
Diego discovers that Stan has accidentally killed Klaus and comforts him. As they attempt to transport his body, Klaus comes back to life. Five and Lila return from the Commission and accidentally destroy their briefcase. They reveal that the grandfather paradox has brought forth a Kugelblitz, which will inevitably collapse the universe until nothing is left. Klaus reveals that the Kugelblitz is actually the flaming ball of energy underneath the Academy.
