The First Apocalypse is an event that occurred in the first season of The Umbrella Academy. The main cause was Viktor Hargreeves. In the original timeline, the Umbrella Academy was killed in the Hargreeves manor, as seen by five when he travels forward in time. Five is ultimately left alone during the apocalypse, and survives on his own. The only other survivor is Dolores, a mannequin that Five grows fond of. Five also finds a prosthetic eye, originally belonging to Harold Jenkins. After spending 45 years alone on earth, Five is greeted by The Handler, the head of Temps Commission. Handler recruits five as an assassin, and Five works for the commission, assassinating and eliminating forces that threaten to alter the original timeline. During J.F.K's assassination, Five is able to travel back in time to stop the apocalypse. Skip to eight days late, Viktor comes to his family after accidentally slitting his sister's throat. After being locked up by her brother Viktor's powers went haywire, and he became apathetic. He went on to destroy the Hargreeve's Manor, killing Pogo by impaling him with antler horns, and killing Mom as a result of his outburst of power. Luckily. the rest of the Umbrella Academy survived, but Viktor had no interest in seeking them out and his main goal was to perform. At the concert, the Umbrella Academy seeks Viktor out. While playing he uses his powers to become more and more formidable. Luther, Diego, Five, and Klaus attack Viktor all at once, but Viktor uses his powers to create energy tentacles, sucking the life of out of the brothers. Allison is able to sneak up behind Viktor and shoots next to his ear with a pistol. This ruins Viktor's concentration, causing him to unintentionally create an outburst of energy that tears the moon apart, sending its pieces hurdling towards earth. The siblings manage to get away via Five time traveling and taking him with them.

Reginald training Viktor

Reginald Hargreeves adopted seven super-powered children, Viktor was one of them. He ultimately had the power of Sound Absorption and was trained by Hargreeves in order to have a firm grasp over his powers. Reginald feared him more than the others. He gave him pills that suppressed his volatile abilities, and kept him locked up in a room made of titanium. As Viktor displayed his abilities, Reginald feared him more and more. He truly believed that Viktor's power was too great. So he had a young Allison brainwash Viktor into thinking he was "just ordinary." Allison didn't understand this request, since she was at a young age and unaware of Viktor's abilities. Reginald continued to give Viktor his medication, as to nullify his great powers.

Leonard's Arrival[]

Viktor soon meets "Leonard", a student of his. He eventually becomes a close friend, then lover. Leonard uses Viktor's loneliness to his advantage. He tells him that he understands what he goes through. He gets close enough to him to trash his pills, which allows Viktor's powers to no longer be nullified. Soon, Leonard reveals Viktor's abilities to him and teaches him to control it. It is unclear how, but Viktor causes the Apocalypse, most likely due to Leonard, killing his siblings and destroying the earth. Five was transported further to a spot on the timeline that was after the apocalypse. There he finds his dead siblings, as well as a prosthetic eyeball.

Five's Return[]

After working for the commission, Five is able to teleport himself back in time before the Apocalypse can concur. The only information he has is a prosthetic eyeball and that the Apocalypse will occur in 8 days. Unfortunately, Five does not know the cause, or of Peabody's infiltration. Peabody still gets close to Viktor, and the same events occur. Five soon goes back to work for the Temps Commission and in doing so he finds that the main cause of the apocalypse is a man named Harold Jenkins (a.k.a Leonard Peabody). Him and his siblings, other than Viktor, soon find out Harold Jenkins' real identity.

Allison's Interference[]

After finding out about Harold Jenkins' real identity, Allison worries for Viktor. She is helped by a cop to seek out Viktor. Meanwhile, Leonard brainwashes Viktor even more, as well as teaches him to use his powers. Allison finds Viktor playing the violin and asks him what's going on. Allison soon learns of Viktor's powers and explains to him how she was tricked into using her ability on Viktor. Angry, Viktor blames Allison for all the treatment and neglect he experienced. Allison becomes frightful and tries to use her powers on Viktor, but Viktor slashes her throat in distress. Both Allison and Viktor are shocked at this outcome. Leonard comes in and takes Viktor away. Allison is left bleeding on the ground.

Viktor's Awakening[]

Viktor is taken to Leonards apartment. He realizes that Leonard has been manipulating and using him this entire time. He uses his powers to impale him with as many silverware as possible, ultimately killing him. He goes back to her apartment and finds an old voicemail of Allison apologizing, and cries over what he has done. He ends up returning to the manor to find Luther. He begs Luther to forgive him and asks to see Allison. Luther says that Allison is resting and cannot be disturbed. Viktor breaks into tears and is embraced by Luther. Luther starts to squeeze him too tightly. The manor shakes as Viktor struggles to breathe. He passes out in Luthers arms, and is locked up in a confinement cell. The siblings gather around him and discuss whether or not they should let Viktor go. They leave Viktor alone. Viktor's trauma and neglecting is thrown back at him, and his powers go haywire, destroying the manor and killing Grace and Pogo.

The Apocalypse[]

Viktor's Performance[]

After Viktor is fully in control of his powers, he prepares for his final performance. He goes home and get ready for his concert, then travels to the Icarus Theatre. The concert begins and Viktor plays beautifully. Unknown to Viktor, his siblings have come to stop him as they have realized that he is the cause of the apocalypse. As Viktor plays, he sees Allison in the crowd. The siblings see each other and smile. Allison wants to try talking to Viktor, but Luther and Diego use it as a distraction and charge Viktor. With a sweep of his violin bow, Viktor unleashes a wave of energy that knocks them flying. The crowd flees and the orchestra try to do the same. Viktor uses his powers to keep the orchestra playing.

The Final Moments[]

"Vanya is the bomb, and she will always be the bomb, unless we take her with us and fix her"
—Number Five

Allison recognizes that Viktor's violin is his lightning rod, and the siblings might have a chance if they get it away from him. Armed gunmen burst into the Theatre and try to kill the Umbrella Academy and stop them from preventing the apocalypse. The orchestra flees but Viktor keeps playing. The Academy fights back, with Klaus able to manifest Ben's spirit into the real world to deal with the gunmen. As Viktor continues to play, Luther, Diego, Klaus and Five decide that if they rush Viktor someone might get through to stop him. His plan fails when Viktor uses his power to suspend them all in the air, connected to him by energy tendrils and draining the life from each of them.

Behind Viktor, Allison aims a gun at his head. Instead of shooting him, Allison places the gun next to his ear and fires, disrupting his power. Viktor releases his brothers, and a lance of energy burst from his body and streaks through the roof of the Theatre, striking the moon. The moon begins to break apart. The pieces crash into earth, destroying homes, oceans, and landscapes. Five and the rest of the members travel back in time in the final moments.

Aftermath[]

"Asteroid impact. The big kaboom ends everything. Just like the one that got the dinosaurs, expect way worse."
—Number Five

As a result, all of earth is destroyed. Most of it is a wasteland of rubble of fire. Luckily, Five and his siblings go back in time to reverse the collateral damage. Due to their interaction with their father, Reginald observed them enough to know that they were failures. In order to not make that mistake again, he sought out new children that were born on October 1st, raising them to be even better and stronger than his original adopted children. When the Umbrella Academy returned, they arrived in "the sparrow academy", where Hargreeves adopted 6 other children, including Ben, and had a a green floating cube as a replacement of Grace and/or Pogo.
