After Five tells Diego Lila was using him to get to him Diego refused to forgive her telling Lila he would just pretend they never met, Lila drugged and kidnapped Diego and introduced him to her mother The Handler as her boyfriend and asked her to let him be part of The Commission Diego escapes upsetting Lila who later attacks his family under her mother's manipulation, Diego forgives her but Lila leaves him in the 60s. Lila follows Diego to 2019 and tells him they have a child named Stanley. She later reveals to Diego that she's pregnant and Stan was a test to see if he could be a good father as she doesn't see herself fit for motherhood. Diego forgives Lila again and they plan to start a family together.

This is the relationship between Lila Pitts and Diego Hargreeves.

History

Diego and Lila have known each other since 1963, when he was placed in a mental facility after attempting to eliminate Lee Harvey Oswald. They grew a bond between each other and would constantly see each other during discussions and group circles.

In Right Back Where We Started, In a psychiatric facility, Diego explains his feelings surrounding his father, Hargreeves, to Dr. Moncton and the rest of his support group, including Lila. The situation becomes tense when it becomes clear that Moncton does not believe him, and questions who the real Diego is. Diego admits that he doesn’t know, but is ready to find out, shedding a single tear to convince Moncton he truly feels that way. Everyone in the support group expect Lila buys his emotional speech. Lila whispers to him that he's full of shit, cognizant that Diego was faking his sadness and emotions. During an activity, they bond for a while. Lila admits that she knows what he is about to do, and hints that she is a very resourceful person.

Diego denies that he has considered escaping, and leaves when a nurse tells him Number Five is waiting for him. In the facility during the night, Diego is able to escape the straight jacket by dislocating his shoulder. After escaping the locked room, he is confronted by hospital staff, but is able to escape with a fellow inmate, Lila’s, help. They flee the facility but are chased by the gang of men who confronted Five earlier and killed Hazel.

In The Frankel Footage, Diego and Lila are desperately trying to evade the authorities and the hitmen who shot at them. Diego tells Lila that they should go their separate ways given the authorities will be looking for the pair of them. Lila is able to convince him otherwise, however, and the two of them steal a car together. Diego and Lila wait for Oswald to finish his shift and formulate a plan of attack. They plan to force Oswald to leave Dallas, but Lila suggests that they kill Oswald before he is able to kill the president. Diego is horrified by the suggestion, preaching that he will not kill someone before they have even committed a crime. The two begin arguing, but are interrupted by Five who travels to the back seat and gives Diego and Lila an ultimatum: go with him or be turned in to the police. Diego agrees, citing that Five isn’t bluffing and would really turn them in. Back at Elliott’s place, Five and Diego argue over their father’s participation in the assassination of JFK; Diego believes Reginald to be involved, wheras Five is reluctant to believe so. They agree to track down Reginald and ask him about averting the apocalypse and the assassination. Meanwhile, Diego talks with Lila, who is in the midst of a mental breakdown brought on by her belief that she is seeing things related to the assassination — an event she believes she herself has conjured. Diego assures her she is not crazy.

In The Swedish Job, Back in Elliots apartment, Lila tries to patch-up Diego's wound with a soldering iron, much to his surprise as he questions if she followed him. Five arrives moments later contemplating the situation with Pogo, who he refers to as an old family friend.

Diego is ready to go find his father, but Lila insists that he stays put, and pokes his wound with a broom in an effort to tire him out. Diego tries to understand why Reginald attacked him, and remarks that he wouldn’t stand a chance man-to-man. Moments pass, and the two begin making out before engaging in sexual activities, much to Elliott’s dismay who is in the next room. Lila sneaks out of Elliott’s store whilst Diego is sleeping and visits the pet shop previously visited by the Handler.

In The Majestic 12, Diego, Lila, Five and Elliott plan how they’ll confront Reginald again before the assassination: luckily, Five knows where he will be shortly, and shows Diego an invitation he found at the Umbrella Manufacturing Plant. Elliott instantly recognizes one of the attendees as one of “the Majestic 12”, a secret shadow government organisation that they believe Reginald to be a member of. Diego, Lila, and Five arrive at the gala and sneak their way to the entrance. Five accosts Lila and tells her that he doesn’t believe that she is on their side despite how brainwashed Diego has been towards her; she assures him that she is on their side, however, but he is reluctant to accept. As the gala heads off to a start, Five tells Lila and Diego that they should split up, with him taking the upstairs and Lila and Diego keeping an eye out downstairs; Lila tries to follow Five on the Handler’s orders, but is pulled back by Diego. Diego questions where she went the previous night, and she makes up a story about going to the pharmacy.

The two dance but Diego is quickly distracted when he notices a woman with stark resemblance to his mother, Grace. Five watches from a closet as the Majestic Twelve announce that they’re going to assassinate JFK in an attempt to keep him from investigating them. Five makes a sudden movement which alerts the twelve to his presence and Reginald orders they meet at the back up location. Five teleports out of the closet but is met by the Swedes who attack him. A fight breaks out and Diego is eventually dragged in but both he and Five are unable to best the Swedes. Lila notices the fighting but is forced to choose to protect Five over Diego, who watches and begs her to help him.

In Valhalla, Picking up from where they left of with the Majestic 12, Lila remarks that they should flee the gala as soon as possible. Five, however, is reluctant to go anywhere with Lila and questions who she is; he finds it odd that she is able to fight and always asks too many questions, but Lila tells Five that she is on their side. Nevertheless, Five tells Lila to stay out of her way or else he will kill her, much to her surprise. Diego turns on Lila moments later too, citing that he knows she is lying about something.

In Öga for Öga, Diego is disappointed when he learns that Lila is a member of the Commission, and that she was just using him to get to Five.

Lila talks to Diego, but he is not happy to see her, and calls her out for lying. Diego tells Lila that he is going to save the world and forget that they ever met. Lila is saddened when she realizes that Diego is digging a grave for Elliott. The two share a drink for Elliott, but it is quickly revealed that what she has given Diego is a sedative. Back at the Temps Commission, Lila introduces Diego to the Handler, her mother.

In The Seven Stages, The Handler is unhappy that Lila plans to put Diego on her team and the two argue. The Handler tells Diego about the confusing history between her and Five, but he tells her that this is the case with everyone. The Handler finally agrees to let Diego join Lila but tells her, "If he ruffles even one feather, you will kill him yourself." Lila brings Diego to his orientation into the Commission. He finds the introduction video boring, but his interest is peaked when he hears about the Infinite Switchboard Room, where the entire timeline is monitored for anomalies. Diego goes looking for the room. He meets Herb, part of the "resistance" against The Handler, together they realize Viktor will cause the end of the world again, Diego escapes. Lila threatens Herb, he tells her Diego is with his family and asks her if she really will kill him, Lila says "Of course not, I love him." However The Handler manages to manipulate Lila against Diego and his family when she tells her Five killed her birth parents, Lila claims she was playing Diego, not the other way around, The Handler insists Diego listens to Five. Lila and The Handler find the Hargreeves, Diego learns Five's secrets to protect the family, he is unable to reach out to Lila, The Handler summons a large army from the commission, they open fire but Diego is able to change the trajectory of the bullets. It is then revealed Lila is one of the 43 children, her ability is to mimick powers, she easily defeats Allison, Luther and Five puts up a fight but loses, Diego is almost successful in convincing Lila that they can be their family as The Handler stole her and ordered Five to kill her birth parents but The Handler kills Diego and his siblings, Lila weeps for Diego and unable to manipulate Lila to forgive her The Handler kills her too, Five is still breathing and manages to go back in time moments before their deaths, this time The Handler is killed by the Swede, a confused Lila grabs the briefcase to go, Luther tries to stop her but Diego stops him and Lila vanishes with the briefcase, Diego tells Luther he stopped him because he loves Lila.
Season 3=
Upon returning to 2019, Diego already misses Lila but she returns quickly with the briefcase, she throws a knife in the back of his chair to get his attention, Diego runs after her and is both surprised and happy to see her, Lila however says she's only there to do a quick drop off, and when Diego asks for further details, she reveals a 12-year-old boy behind her named Stanley and tells him he is his son, shocking Diego.

Later after her briefcase stops working, Lila returns to the hotel. After teaming up with Five, she only tells Diego she has been away for 12 years and there's nothing between them anymore and all that unites them is their child and he should look after him. Diego is initially upset but grows to bond with Stanley.

On their trip Five tells Lila she shouldn't be so harsh with Diego as he may actually love her. After returning from the Commission, Lila returns with Five and hugs Diego, surprised by her gesture Diego asks her what's wrong, Lila says there's less time to hold grudges than she expected. She reveals the family that the universe is ending very soon. Lila is happy to see Diego and Stanley bonding and they quickly make amends and resume their relationship.

The day after Stanley goes missing, Diego and Lila walk into a mysterious tunnel through the bedroom door and wander around the hotel where Lila accidentally admits Stanley is not their child. We learn in flashbacks Lila had been to Berlin after she left with the briefcase where she joined a rock band and dyed her hair blonde, she still missed Diego and saw him amongst the crowd even though he wasn't really there, there she met Stanley and told him if he wanted to go to America to terrorize a friend as his mother was away with her boyfriend for a week. Diego is initially very upset with Lila who tells him she wanted to see how he would do as a father but his priority is finding Stanley, he rings the hotel bell against Lila's advise and the room turns dark, they hear voices and suddenly two of Diego's fingers are chopped off by a blade, they run away from some unknown creature and go back to the bedroom they came from, just in time to see Stanley consumed by the Kugelblitz.

Later Lila explains Diego the real reason she brought Stanley to him is because she is pregnant with his child. She was scared he would reject her and the baby, so she used Stanley as a way to test her hypothesis and see what kind of parent he'd be. Lila says that after the fight at the barn, she went to The Commission's Infinite Switchboard to get a glimpse of Diego because she missed him, and there she discovered The Handler betrayed her and put a bullet in her heart. Lila thinks she won't be a good mother but says that she truly wants a family with Diego.

The day of Luther's wedding, Lila teases Diego asking him if he is still playing hard to get. She wants to go to the wedding together, but Diego refuses, as he still wants to try save the world so they can be a family with their baby, Lila thinks the world is beyond saving and tells Diego she loves him but he has to chose between spending his last moments on earth with her or trying to save the world, he chooses her.

Diego and Lila go to the wedding where she makes him introduce her to new time-line's version of Reginald Hargreeves, where she makes a good impression on Reginald. After Lila leaves Reginald congratulates Diego on his girlfriend and says it's a shame the world is ending as he would have made a superb father.

After having a good time together with the family, Lila says it's better that the world is ending as she would've been a terrible mom, but Diego reassures her otherwise and says he doubts it.

The next day Reginald tells all the family he has a plan that could save the world. In order to reset the universe, they have to go through the tunnel Diego and Lila had gone through earlier, into Hotel Oblivion. Lila votes in favor, so Diego votes against it as he wants to keep Lila safe. In private, Lila tells Diego he shouldn't make decisions for her and that she is a fighter just like him, Diego disagrees and he tells her he said he only said he choose her because she thought she'd be nice, Lila says if he wanted nice he would be with someone else. Their disagreements continue when Diego almost lets it slip that Lila is pregnant while defending her from the new time-line's version of Ben. Diego thinks it's a good idea to give the family a reason to fight for if they know Lila and Diego are having a baby, but Lila doesn't think so.

The group splits up to find the sigils and Diego and Lila are told by Reginald to stick are a duo, as no one wants to hear them arguing. Lila admits to Diego she is afraid of failing their baby like The Handler failed her, Diego assures her behind all her "bullshit", she is a good and decent person, and not manipulative and heartless like her mother.

After subduing a guardian, Diego, whose first priority is keeping Lila and the baby safe, locks Lila in a closet and tells her to tell the baby about the person he was. Lila eventually escapes with the help of Viktor's power, and upon reuniting with Diego in the lobby, is too relieved to be mad at him and kisses him, telling him she loves him.

When the universe is reset and the Hargreeves find themselves powerless, Lila suggests they accept it and start to live their lives. She and Diego part from the rest of the group, hand in hand, ready to start their new family.
