—Diego Hargreeves[src]

Diego Hargreeves is one of forty-three children all born on the same day to women who were not previously pregnant at the time. The baby was one seven adopted by [[]] with the intent of training them to save the world. Ranked in order of their usefulness, Diego was designated Number Two because of his ability to manipulate items he throws, mostly knives. Diego is played by David Castañeda in the [[]] of [[]].

Biography

Diego Hargreeves was born on 1 October 1989 at 12PM and immediately adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves. His heritage is likely Spanish or Mexican because his adoted mother, Grace, gave the members of the Umbrella Academy names inspired by their ethinc background.

Personality

Diego is impulsive and reckless, using his knife-throwing powers to intimidate anyone he perceives as a threat. Diego’s position as second-best manifested an inferiority complex, which causes him to insult and provoke his older siblings, particularly Luthor and Allison. He is aware of how cruel Sir Reginald was, and disparages his legacy at every opportunity. However despite his deeply-held contempt for the Hargreeve name, Diego was offended by Vanya’s tell-all family biography.

Diego has a deep emotional connection to his mother, Grace, who helped him overcome his shyness and stutter. As such, he is fiercely protective of her, even going so far as to discard evidence that could implicate her in Sir Reginald’s death. Likewise, despite his macho exterior, Diego is ultimately a drama queen who uses action movie one-liners and wears a leather superhero unitard.

Relationships

Detective Eudora Patch was Diego's ex-girlfriend. Diego and Path presumably met in the police academy and entered a relationship after Diego was expelled. While Diego is a vigilante type and Patch was more by-the-books, they were brough together by their mutual desire for justice. Even broken up, he confided in her about Grace's death. Diego often interrupts Patch's crime scene investigations, much to her annoyance, and his dismissive attitude toward her responsibilities as a detective was likely a source of tension in their relationship. Diego was devestated when Patch was killed by Cha Cha and her death motivated him to hunt down the temporal assassin duo. Patch only exists in the Netflix adaptation as in the comics she is replaced by Inspector Lupo.

Powers and Abilities

  • Trajectory Curving: Diego has the ability to curve the trajectory of anything he throws, usually one or both of his dual knives.
    • Master Knife-Thrower: Diego is extremely adept at throwing knives.
