History[]
The Cleanse is an entity which causes an event with the same name. The event is caused when the particle Marigold comes into contact with its opposing particle Durango.
The start of this event is first seen within the episode "The Cleanse" where it is revealed to the Umbrella Academy how their brother, Ben Hargreeves had been murdered due to the Marigold within him merging with the Durango from Jennifer. However, this event was avoided by Sir Reginald Hargreeves by killing the young Ben and the young Jennifer.
This is seen also within the episode "End of the Beginning" where the Marigold within the Ben Hargreeves from the Sparrow Timeline and Durango within the Jennifer from the Reset Universe combine. The reaction of the particles turned Ben and Jennifer into the monstrous beast, which then consumed the Umbrellas and the Marigold within them, causing the end of the world.

- It is presumed that The Cleanse is what caused Sir Reginald Hargreeves' planet to die out, causing him and his wife to leave their planet
- It is presumed that the illness that Abigail Hargreeves had, was in some part connected to The Cleanse
