Alphonso Hargreeves is one of the 16 super-powered babies born on October 1, 1989 in the Sparrow timeline. He was adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves and became a member of the Sparrow Academy.

Biography

Alphonso was born on October 1, 1989, one of sixteen children born to women who had not been pregnant at the start of the day. He and six other of these children were adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves and raised as a member of the Sparrow Academy, a team of superheroes.

In 2014, Reginald's long-time assistant and friend Pogo left the Academy after a dispute with Hargreeves. While the Sparrows were all devastated at Pogo's departure, they were given medication by their former mentor to subdue Reginald. With this, Alphonso and the other Sparrows ran the Sparrow Academy as they saw fit for the next five years. The Sparrows seemed to have no guilt in verbally assaulting both Sir Reginald Hargreeves and Grace.

Meeting The Umbrella Academy

When the Umbrellas started fighting the Sparrows, Alphonso remained inactive until Allison punched him in the face, causing him to retaliate and hit her back. After that, Alphonso didn’t contribute much to the fight.

During training, Marcus scolds Alphonso and the others after all of them are defeated by Viktor. Later, while Alphonso and Jayme are at the supermarket, they encounter Diego and fight. Diego punched Alphonso, knocking him down, which led Jayme to intervene so Alphonso could use his inhaler. However, Alphonso continued to be hit by cans thrown by Stan.

Later, Alphonso and Jayme forced Reginald Hargreeves to sign a document and take his pills. Eventually, the Sparrows devised a plan to attack the Umbrellas at the Hotel Obsidian.^{[citation needed]}

Death

Alphonso, along with the rest of the surviving Sparrow Academy members, confronted Allison, Diego, Luther, and Viktor at the Hotel Obsidian's lobby. As Christopher incapacitated the four of them and Jayme and Alphonso stepped forward to kill them, Harlan Cooper arrived at the scene and released a blast from his chest. Alphonso was killed by the blast alongside Jayme, which causes their faces to get disfigured in the process.

Personality

Alphonso Hargreeves is "a scarred crime-fighter with a caustic and biting sense of humor who enjoys verbally berating his enemies, almost as much as he enjoys a good pizza and a six-pack of beer."

Alphonso appeared to be rather close to Jayme, as the two were often seen together and showed great concern towards her.^{[citation needed]} He also doesn't seem picky about his food choices, as he is often seen eating, resulting in his current physique.

Powers and Abilities

Powers

• Empathetic Masochism: Alphonso can harm or inflict pain on others by inflicting damage upon one's own body. This power requires conscious effort and appropriate stamina to work, as Alphonso was defeated upon getting tired.
  • Enhanced Durability: As a by-product of his power and his unique physiology, Alphonso has extra resistance to damage, allowing him to do more harm to his enemies than himself, though there appear to be limits to his defenses, as his chin even chipped off from Diego's kick.

Abilities

• Expert Combatant: Alphonso, like most of his siblings, is an expert fighter, capable of holding his own against Diego before requiring his inhaler.

However, his current physiology means he lacks speed or agility, so he often uses his power to knock them down first before coming in with a stomp kick.
